Deflecting is quite correct. These totalitarian police state laws are being seen in countries where the "n word" has not been in use. That is NOT what they are about. They are vague enough to cover lots of things the establishment does not want people talking about. In fact, it is their very vagueness that makes them so sinister. Some of these anti-democracy laws carry significant jail sentences and fines.
"hate speech" is only "real" to those who have a totalitarian mentality, like a certain troll on this board.

Hate speech is real. Enough of us believe it to be so. Enough to make the use of the N word unacceptable. Should you go to jail for using it? No.

This attempt to suppress free speech by calling it "hate speech" is also targeted at those who oppose illegal immigration. Opponents of open borders have already been targeted under these undemocratic laws in several European countries, including elected officials. Who ought to be jailed are the dictatorial politicians who pass these outrageous laws.
What is scary is that Democrats in America are already working on bringing this totalitarian concept to our shores.

Looks like Bobbie is deflecting again. From the articles in those British papers, this attack on free speech seems geared to protecting sexual deviants. Indeed, there are now British womens lib groups livid over this law because their efforts to protect womens sports and womens spaces from biological men are being suppressed. When do we get to the next step outlined by Orwell in "1984" - the "thought crime"?

This totalitarians measure is a whole lot broader than that. Opposing illegal immigration or supporting Biblical views on homosexuality could send people to prison. So can callilng a man who dresses up as a woman a man.
While the n word is crude and offenseive, as are many other words, people should not go to prison for using them. Interestingly, the only people I have heard using the n word in years have been black folks talking about other black folks. Should they go to prison for it?
