For days, rain has fallen on the rabbit patch. The sun managed to bring a golden glow to the early service, and that was lovely.

The sky is brightening as I write this. The "early service" was especially quiet this morning. A mockingbird sang a solo.

August has been like a breath of fresh air, after Julys' heat and humidity. It is an especially lovely time to stroll by the laughing river or to sit on a rock and watch clouds.

I left Thursday morning for Elizabeth City. It was a peaceful drive even with a little rain falling. I thought of all that had been accomplished at the rabbit patch, in the last few weeks.

I was up especially early, today-but I still missed "the morning service". I did not say my prayers, til two am, just a few hours, before I roused. The sweet little housekeeping work on Monday, turned out to be grueling.

The farmhouse on the rabbit patch is old . . almost a century old. It was built at a time, when real wood was used and put together with nails made of real iron.

July is not meandering-in fact, it is going along at "break neck" speed. When I was younger, July did not pass "in a twinkling", as it does now.

Dawn broke with a muted light. The kind of light that does not rouse the world with any sense of urgency. These kind of mornings, come "softly and tenderly" like the old hymn says Jesus calls.

Today is far from ordinary, at the rabbit patch. On this day, three decades ago, I became a mother. My oldest son, Brant was born on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, while the mimosa trees were blooming.
