    James Arthur Mizelle, age 73, a resident of Dan Taylor Rd., Washington, NC passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at his home. There will be a celebration of his life at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Dallas Gurganus. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.

    Mr. Mizelle was born October 30, 1940 in Bertie County, son of the late William and Fannie Caroline Price Mizelle. He was married to the former Linda Modlin on June 26, 1986, who survives. Mr. Mizelle loved farming and growing a garden and working in his yard. He also loved tractors and attending farm auctions and was a regular at Greenville Auto Auction. Mr. Mizelle retired from PCS after 33 years of service. He loved to travel and visit new places. He deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his daughter, stepson, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Mizelle also enjoyed helping others with his many acts of kindness.

    In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Katherine Caroline Mizelle Whitfield of Apex; his grandson, James Arthur Mizelle, III; two great grandchildren, James Arthur Mizelle, IV and Kaitlyn Mizelle; his stepson, Toby Sawyer; his step grandchildren, Hayden Bentley and Jacob Sawyer; his sisters, Velma Stalls of Robersonville, Eula Edwards of Washington, Lori Gaston of Chester, SC, and Bonnie Williams of Bear Grass; his brother, Robert Ed Mizelle of Bear Grass, and John Cotton Tayloe Mizelle of Washington.

    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Ashley Mizelle; his sister, Martha Elizabeth Mizelle; and his sons, Douglas Arthur Mizelle and James Arthur Mizelle, Jr.
