For Immediate Release:

Representative Paul Tine announced his re-election bid for the North Carolina General Assembly today. Tine will run for re-election in House District 6, which covers Dare, Hyde, Washington, and parts of Beaufort County.

"I'm running for re-election because there's a lot of work left to be done in Eastern North Carolina. There continues to be a struggle between rural and urban communities. It would be an honor to again fight on behalf of the people of District 6 to make sure we get a fair shot at opportunity," Tine said.

Tine, a small business owner, has brought extensive private and public sector experience to the legislature. Tine plans to use this leadership experience in a second term to work with members of both parties to fix the issues plaguing our state. His ability last session to work across party lines and get results caught the notice of the NC Chamber of Commerce who stated "Rep. Paul Tine was a go-to leader on a host of business climate issues, including tax reform, economic development, tax reform and UI changes."

Tine mentioned several issues of concern that he continues to work on from fair Homeowners and Flood Insurance rates to replacing Bonner Bridge to retooling our education system. "This district has a lot of challenges, but we have a lot of opportunities as well," Tine said. "With the right infrastructure and education we can build good paying jobs. It's vital, however, that we have someone in Raleigh who works hard to get the right tools in place."

Tine pointed to his legislative record last year as evidence he can get work done. "As a freshman in the minority from the East, I was very concerned about how much I would be able to get done, but I was able to pass five bills into law and get another two incorporated into other bills," Tine said. "I spent a lot of time making some very bad legislation better and amended several bills."

Education, job creation, and infrastructure will be the focus of Tine's campaign, but campaign spokesperson Keith Mason, Jr. emphasized that the race would also be about protecting rural areas. "As Co-Chair and a founding member of the Democratic Rural Caucus, Representative Tine has been a leader in the fight on rural issues. From fighting vouchers and education cuts, to denouncing Medicaid cuts for rural healthcare centers, to promoting infrastructure projects, Eastern North Carolina has a strong advocate in Representative Tine." Mason said.
