David Earl Jones, Jr. | Eastern NC Now

    David Earl Jones, Jr., 70, of Elizabeth City, NC, died peacefully at home after an extended illness surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 16, 2014.

    Born in Beaufort County, NC, he was the son of the late David Earl Jones, Sr. and Estelle Brinn and was the beloved husband of Francesca Dupuis Jones. Mr. Jones was a past elder at the Elizabeth City Church of Christ, a deacon at South Mills Church of Christ and a past member of Camden Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

    In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by two daughters, Amber Sablon and husband William and Erin Jones; two sons, Jay Benson and Kenneth Benson; a sister-in-law, Laura "Cookie" Jones-Weaver; five grandchildren; two nephews and one niece. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ginny Voliva Jones; and a brother, Steven Lee Jones.

    A funeral service will take place Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Clair's Church of Christ in Bath, NC with Craig Hagen officiating.

    Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford Memorial Chapel on Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Jones family.
