Jones Honored For Conservative Voting Record

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) received an award from the American Conservative Union (ACU) to recognize him as a member of a select group of "ACU Conservatives." Congressman Jones was honored for his record of voting to defend constitutionally limited government, individual liberty, free markets, a strong national defense, and traditional values.

"I am honored to receive the ACU Conservative award," said Congressman Jones. "I will continue working to advance Eastern North Carolina's conservative values in the House of Representatives in the days to come."

The ACU is the country's oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization. The full 2013 ACU scorecard can be found here.

Jones Secures Relocation Of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Original Foundation Stones

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) is pleased to announce that the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse original foundation stones will be relocated further inland to prevent them from being damaged and ensure that they will be preserved for future generations to enjoy. The stones are engraved with the names of each past keeper of the lighthouse and dates of their service.

In December, Congressman Jones expressed concern to the National Park Service (NPS) that the stones were not being properly maintained and has since then worked regularly with the NPS, Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, and Hatteras Island Genealogical and Preservation Society to come to an agreement on the best manner in which the three organizations could work together to preserve the stones. These efforts have resulted in a decision to relocate the stones, a process which is expected to be completed before Memorial Day.

"The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse original foundation stones are an important piece of Eastern North Carolina's heritage," said Congressman Jones. "By relocating them further inland, as we did with the lighthouse itself, we will ensure that the stones are preserved for future generations. I am grateful to the National Park Service and our local Eastern North Carolina organizations for working diligently with me on this issue."
