The recipient of the award is presented with a golden apple, which is passed along to the next month's recipient, and a plaque, which the recipient can keep and display. Jarman was given the award by N.C. Back-to-Work Success Coach Sandra Barfield, the previous month's recipient.

In nominating Jarman for the award, Barfield said, "Mr. Jarman has given the best of himself to the staff and faculty of BCCC, the Continuing Education Department, and the students. Over the years, he has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around him so they might become better citizens and members of the community. Mr. Jarman's legacy at BCCC will be carried on through encouragement."
