Kay Hagan: President Obama's Rubber-Stamp | Eastern NC Now

During her 2008 U.S. Senate campaign, Kay Hagan promised North Carolinians she would be a "moderate" and "independent" voice in Washington.

For Immediate Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     During her 2008 U.S. Senate campaign, Kay Hagan promised North Carolinians she would be a "moderate" and "independent" voice in Washington.

In fact, Hagan repeatedly attacked Senator Elizabeth Dole for voting with President Bush 92 percent of the time, making the argument that regardless of one's partisan affiliation, voting that closely with the President demonstrates an elected official isn't "representing North Carolinians."

HAGAN: "It is time for someone to reach across party lines and finally get something done in this country. Voting 92% of time with the President, whether you support him or not, doesn't work here in North Carolina." (State Sen. Kay Hagan, U.S. Senate Debate At NC Bar Association, Atlantic Beach, NC 6/21/08)

HAGAN: "Elizabeth Dole was just ranked the 93rd least effective senator and she votes with President Bush 92% of the time. I know we're all democrats here but I don't care what party you're from that's not representing North Carolinians when you're voting 92% with President Bush." (Kay Hagan, Speech On CCCC Campus In Pittsboro, 3/27/08)

But unfortunately for North Carolinians, it was all false advertising.

Hagan went to Washington and immediately became a rubber-stamp for President Obama's failed liberal policies. She has been anything but "moderate" or "independent."

On average, Hagan has voted with Obama 95 percent of the time during her tenure in the Senate: 96 percent in 2009, 95 percent in 2010, 90 percent in 2011, 96 percent in 2012, and 96 percent in 2013.

When President Obama needs Senator Hagan's support, he gets it:

   •  Hagan gave Obama the deciding vote he needed to make ObamaCare law.

   •  Trillion dollar deficits are now the norm and America is nearly $7 trillion deeper in debt since Hagan took office.

   •  Hagan and Obama raised taxes on the middle-class and small businesses.

   •  Hagan has voted to confirm Obama's extreme judicial and executive nominees.

   •  Hagan and Obama cut Medicare for North Carolina seniors to pay for ObamaCare.

   •  Hagan voted for Obama's failed Stimulus spending bill.

   •  Hagan supports Obama's liberal special interest energy agenda, supporting cap and trade and a carbon tax, while opposing offshore drilling.

   •  Hagan sides with big labor unions and their fringe agenda over North Carolina workers and small businesses.

It's no surprise that Hagan enthusiastically endorsed President Obama's re-election in 2012, saying America needed him in the White House for four more years:

"I worry about and think about jobs, jobs, jobs, every day. And that's exactly why we need President Obama in the White House for four more years." ("Sen. Kay Hagan: President Obama 'Fully Invested' In North Carolina," ABC News, 9/5/12)

Hagan's record makes it clear that she will continue to be a rubber-stamp for President Obama's worst ideas and failed big-government policies.

"Six years ago, Kay Hagan promised voters she would be an independent thinker, but then she went to Washington and instantly became a rubber-stamp for President Obama's failed policies, voting with him 95 percent of the time," said Tillis for U.S. Senate campaign manager Jordan Shaw. "Kay Hagan and President Obama have created a mess in Washington, passing ObamaCare, piling on trillions in debt, and putting liberal special interests first. North Carolina middle-class families and small businesses are the ones paying the price. If we want to change the direction of our country, we have to change our Senator."
