Governor Meets with North Carolina Medical Community for "White Coat Wednesday" | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Press Release:

Members of McCrory Administration and doctors from throughout the state convened to discuss Medicaid reform

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory and Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos, M.D. hosted members of the North Carolina medical provider community at the executive mansion this afternoon to make plans for the state's $13 billion Medicaid system.

In March, Secretary Wos unveiled the administration's proposed Medicaid redesign. The proposal was well received by the medical community, with the North Carolina Hospital Association, North Carolina Medical Society, N.C. Academy of Family Physicians and North Carolina Pediatric Society, among others, signaling their support.

"Today gave us the chance to thank the medical community for their continued support of our plan," Governor McCrory said. "Without their input and encouragement, we would not have been able to come up with such a comprehensive, sustainable plan that puts the patient first."

Secretary Wos praised the medical providers' perseverance in placing the wellness of the patient above political and financial expediency.

"While there is much work to be done, today's meeting reminds me that we have a great partner in the North Carolina medical community," said Secretary Wos. "Together we can ensure that Medicaid funds are being used in the most effective way possible."

The governor and Secretary Wos' meeting with senior leadership from the state medical provider community culminated with a press conference featuring DHHS Medicaid Director Robin Cummings, M.D.
