Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to pass a bill cosponsored by Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) that would increase the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) accountability to the VA Inspector General (IG). The Demanding Accountability for Veterans Act (H.R. 2072) would require the IG to report to Congress and the secretary of the VA if the VA does not properly respond to an IG report. The secretary must then notify the managers responsible for problem areas and provide them with the resources necessary to resolve the issues outlined in the report. The secretary must also provide a list of these managers to the IG.

"Increasing accountability and oversight at the VA is an important first step in fixing the problems that our veterans are facing," said Congressman Jones. "The men and women who bravely served our country deserve a VA that works efficiently for them, and this legislation will help ensure that issues within the VA system are remedied as quickly as possible."

Congressman Jones also recently voted in favor of H.R. 4031, which aims to improve accountability at the VA by allowing the secretary of the VA to remove any official displaying poor job performance. poor job performance.
