"The president has all but invited the flood of illegal immigrants across our borders."

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) issued the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's failure to enforce U.S. immigration laws, which has resulted in a 40 percent decrease in interior removals and incentivized illegal border crossings, particularly for children:

"A president's job is to faithfully execute the laws of this nation," said Congressman Jones. "But on border security, like so many other issues, President Obama has willfully failed to do the job that he was elected to do. It is obvious that the crisis on our southern border is a direct result of the president's refusal to enforce our nation's immigration laws. President Obama has all but invited the flood of illegal immigrants across our borders by making it clear that his administration will do little to deport those who are caught, while doing everything it can to grant amnesty to all those who have broken our laws."

"For the past decade, I have spent each Independence Day at a naturalization ceremony for individuals who have put in the time and effort necessary to legally become American citizens. These ceremonies are a reminder of the injustice that is done when immigrants who have cheated the system and crossed the border illegally gain citizenship ahead of those who follow the appropriate process. I call on the Obama administration now to immediately begin enforcing our immigration laws – and that means securing our borders, deporting those who have arrived illegally, and making it clear that such behavior will not be rewarded with citizenship in the future."
