Mary Sue Lawrence Craig | Eastern NC Now

    Mary Sue Lawrence Craig, age 91, a resident of Iron Creek Commons, Washington, NC passed away Monday, July 7, 2014.

    There will be a celebration of her life at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 11, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Lance Perry. Music will be provided by Douglas E. Cutler. Burial will be private. Vernon Howell, Jay Bell, Calvin Respess, Malvin Respess, Jr., Keith Respess and Ronda Respess will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday, July 11 one hour prior to the service at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC.

    Mary was born August 5, 1922 in Surry County, daughter of the late W. J. Lawrence and Katie Shepard Lawrence. She was married to John H. Respess, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1971. On December 21, 1975 she married Richard Swindell Craig who survives. Mary was a homemaker. She loved to play bridge, decorating and gardening. She was a past member of the Bath Garden Club. Mary was a member of First Christian Church.

    In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her sons, John Henry Respess, III and wife Ann of Wilmington and Larry M. Respess and wife Brenda of Rocky Mount; her brother, Wade Lawrence and wife Eloise of Asheboro; and her grandchildren, Laura Respess, Margaret Respess and Larry Mitch Respess.

    In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by ten siblings.
