Beaufort County Commissioners Approve the Search for Alternate Secondary Financing for Southwest County Jail | Eastern North Carolina Now

The 'Gang of Four' rejects the democratic voice of the People once again.

Beaufort County's Board of County Commissioners voted by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3, to seek alternate secondary financing after the U.S.D.A. (United States Department of Agriculture) rejected the county's request for financing of the controversial jail project, because of their perception of low public support. At this General Meeting, August 4, 2014, these 'Gang of Four' commissioners (Democrats Jerry langley, Ed Booth, Robert Belcher and RINO Al Klemm) voted to stop any possibility of a General Obligation Bond, which would have been voted on by the people of Beaufort County in the next general election this November 4th.

Voting against the alternate secondary financing were Republicans Gary Brinn, Hood Richardson and Stan Deatherage.

The General Obligation Bond would have required a democratic vote of the people as a prerequisite to obtaining that more standard form of financing for the Southwest County Jail to bring that major capital project into full fruition. Tonight, this majority of county commissioners saw fit to stop that democratic process in favor of any alternate financing that would not require a democratic vote of the people for any general obligation bond.

Instead, Beaufort County will seek whatever municipal bonds that are available, pay a higher interest rate than would be offered through a general obligation bond, and pay about 200,000.00 in transaction fees to complete that alternate process.

After the 'Gang of Four' did their business, which excluded that democratic vote of the People as prescribed by the North Carolina Constitution, Commissioner Hood Richardson remarked, 'You will be as unsuccessful in getting funding for this project as you were with the U.S.D.A. This is not a popular project, the People of Beaufort County do not want it, and nobody will make you a loan if there is any threat that they will not get paid back.'

There will need to be a public hearing before the application for any alternate secondary financing can be allocated.

Remarkably, Charles, I am discovering that this mattered to some of the folks who don't pay attention, or maybe just aren't competent at cogent thought, but there was a narrative afoot that Commissioner Conduct was the fault of the Democrats and the RINOs not being being able to make the proper choices at voting time.

That is why the Dority, Ashley Woolard, and what is that other stooge's name(?) did the hit pieces on me that they did. They were going after the stupid vote, and there must have been a lot of it.

I have a 'chicken or the egg question': Which came first, the stupid vote, or the the three stooges of Beaufort County politics: Greg Dority, Ashley Woolard, or the other stooge nurturing the stupid vote to the point of a cataclysm of babbling "Idiocracy": www.youtube.com

Whose brow is more furrowed than Chairman Langley's as he proclaims that the peoples' right to vote will not be granted. As is our right, let the people vote.

The present jail meets state standards at this time. If these ill thought out expansive plans for a jail/public safety center complex go through by a 4 to 3 vote, I'm just wondering how the morons among us will blame Hood and Stan for the long term tax increases that will come with this boondoggle.

The discussions that should precede our course of action should begin with a public referendum. This expensive, expansive, debt ridden cram down by a one vote majority of the commission is no way to win public support; it is more likely to bring public wrath.

This disaster can be avoided by a vote of the people. Let us vote!

We've already led the way for 18 years and have been rebuffed. This is quantifiable, well documented, a good bit of it in the tens of thousands of pages of BCN.

I will be stepping down, knowing well this government is of the people's making.

Obviously, the people of Beaufort County have a good deal smartening-up ahead of them, or maybe not. Either way, I will be a private citizen, and glad of it.

The show will continue with absolutely now progress ~~~ until someone says, "Let's get out heads together for the common good!"

Will you and Hood lead the way or will you keep beating them with a stick and making it worse????

Mad or happy is the real question????

Well, when you have four commissioners who only listen to some other voice other than the one I hear, they pretty much what they want to do, when and where they want to do it, and contrary to the talking points of the stupids (those that wag their tongues far too often, with very to wag about), with far too little to do, and way too much time on their hands: This is, and has never been mine and Hood's fault.

Just the opposite. We have been on the right side, and historic amount, of so many votes.

Accordingly, I will hate to pay higher taxes, but I will be very happy for all those that have long voted for Jay McRoy, Al Klemm, Jerry Langley, Robert Belcher, Robert Cayton, Ed Booth, and so many more incompetents to pay up. It is these taxpayers government that they do so well deserve.

When I hear their plaintiff whining, and Liberals and RINOs do whine at some point, I will have a fine chuckle. Still, it won't be a good enough chuckle to assuage my paying of the higher taxes - almost though.

You guys look like this!!! Mad and determined to get your way and no cooperation to come to some consensus that pleases the public and is voted on by them since we must all pay for the much-needed Law Enforcement Center / jail.

Is it possible to come up with a plan which is reasonable in cost (no cheap approach is possible as a given).

Hood Richardson is an engineer and told us the current approach, though costly is not including steel that will last. The "Gang of 4" is right in that we must do something.

So what can we do that is a plus for community cooperation and better Law Enforcement???

I see a large warehouse being demolished now / the old K-Mart got passed up years ago. Surely, there is a better location than the Industrial Park. Even the Chocowinity folks are getting in a Rowe over zoning issues.

Let's show some good Southern civility and smarts rather than a constant fight over community improvement and good politics for a change.

Despot: master; an absolute ruler; king with unlimited powers; autocrat; tyrant.

What we have here is four despotic Beaufort County Commissioners that have no regard for the North Carolina Constitution or the people of Beaufort County.

You've heard the expression, 'It ain't over till the fat lady sings.'

Well ... last night that is exactly when it all began.

This commissioner meeting was weird, it was wrong, and the 'fat lady did sing'. Just check the opening comments of the video of last night's county commissioner meeting.

I have an article of my perceptions I hope will run soon. I arrived late to the meeting. Somebody passed "sour pills" to the Board members during the invocation, I think.

I don't see the present plans anywhere near complete. Councilman Richardson asked a question before the break about the steel being proposed as not a lasting kind of building material. Until issues such as this are resolved, you don't have a plan for anyone to consider, in my view.
