    Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory signed 14 bills into law yesterday:

  • S.B. 793 (Sens. Tillman and Cook) - A bill making various changes to the charter school laws, as well as a technical correction to House Bill 712.
  • S.B. 376 (Sen. Bingham) - A bill allowing Montgomery County employees and the dependents of employees to participate in the State Health plan for teachers and state employees.
  • S.B. 773 (Sen. Hartsell) - A bill implementing the recommendations of the General Statutes Commission to modify the Slayer Statute due to the need to account for property held in a joint tenancy in unequal shares, and more.
  • S.B. 163 (Sens. Jackson, Cook and Rabin) - A bill designating reclaimed water as a source water under certain conditions.
  • S.B. 193 (Sen. Hartsell) - A bill modifying P3 ethics reporting requirement in S.L. 2014-18.
  • S.B. 403 (Sen. Bingham) - A bill amending and clarifying various provisions of the election laws.
  • S.B. 648 (Sens. Jackson, Meredith and Davis) - A bill creating transparency in contracts between the Attorney General and private attorneys, to prevent the abuse of patents and more.
  • S.B. 853 (Sens. Rucho and Barringer) - A bill modernizing the business court by making technical, clarifying and administrative changes to the procedures for complex business cases, and more.
  • H.B. 1048 (Rep. Hastings) - A bill amending the selection criteria for adjutant general of the North Carolina National Guard, and more.
  • H.B. 884 (Reps. Jeter, R. Moore, Blackwell and Cotham) - A bill providing for a dropout prevention and recovery pilot program with a charter school and requiring the State Board of Education to report on utilization of personnel contracts.
  • H.B. 1194 (Reps. Collins and S. Ross) - A bill making changes to administration of the state retirement systems.
  • H.B. 1145 (Reps. Shepard, R. Brown and Millis) - A bill requiring mopeds to be registered with the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • >H.B. 366 (Reps. Langdon, Dixon, Brisson and S. Martin) - A bill maintaining the confidentiality of environmental investigations for agricultural operations and directing the Department of Environment & Natural Resources to adopt rules for a formal complaint procedure, and more.
  • H.B. 272 (Reps. Stam, Jackson and Bryan) - A bill making various changes to laws affecting the Department of Transportation and the Division of Motor Vehicles.

    The governor signed the 2014-15 state budget into law this morning.

School announced yesterday that the so called forums at Chocowinity Middle School tonight (April 29,2025) and S.W. Snowden (Thursday May 1, 2025) have been cancelled pending the managers proposed budget.

The political schedule has suddenly become complicated. This is because the Republican party is deliberately scheduling events to conflict with our schedule.

Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the NC State Board of Elections, recently was elected incoming president of the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), putting her in line to serve as association president in 2026.
