Press Release:

Camp Lejeune, N.C. – Governor Pat McCrory was in Onslow County today to tour Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Governor McCrory and his military affairs adviser, Major General Cornell Wilson, U.S. Marines (Retired), were given a tour of the base, along with a briefing session and an inside look at a MV—22 Static Display. The governor had lunch with Camp Lejeune leadership and discussed the future of the base, along with other issues.

"The MV-22 Osprey is a vital component for the Marines to fulfill their historic expeditionary mission," Governor McCrory said. "Camp Lejeune Marines have proven time and time again they stand ready to defend our country on any battlefield in the world using some of the nation's most advanced and sophisticated technology."

North Carolina has the third-largest military population in the country, with nearly 110,000 active duty military personnel assigned to units in the state, according to a 2013 report from the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Camp Lejeune, with over 41,000 active duty personnel, has an estimated economic impact of over $4 billion in North Carolina.

Governor McCrory has made supporting our military a prime commitment of his administration. Last month, the governor signed S.B. 761 into law, which provides clearer guidance to licensure and professional boards on accepting military education and training, as well as certification from other states for military service members and their dependents. It places timelines on responding to requests and ensure justification for denials are provided.

He also ensured that in-state tuition for veterans was a part of the Appropriations Act of 2014, which he signed into law yesterday.
