    Betsy Anne Dixon Stearns, age 79, a resident of 629 Blackbeard's View, Bath, NC, died Thursday August 14, 2014 at her home.

    A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday August 17, 2014 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Rev. Lee Hendricks. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

    Mrs. Stearns was born in Portsmouth, VA on July 14, 1935 to the late Venoy Rex Dixon and Irene Virginia Person Dixon. She was a 1953 graduate of Churchland High School of Portsmouth, VA and on April 2, 1955 she married Thomas Edward Stearns. She worked for many years as an office clerk for Washington High School and attended the First Baptist Church in Washington.

    Mrs. Stearns is survived by her husband Thomas E. Stearns of the home, three children, a daughter Kyle Anne Stearns of Charlotte, and two sons, Barry Stearns of Greenville and Kevin Edward Stearns and wife Emiley of Bath.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern NC Chapter, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
