    Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Hawkins Heath, 62, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 16, 2014.

    The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 AM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

    Mildred was born and raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. Years later she went back to school and graduated from Beaufort County Community College in 2002. She lived in Greenville for many years, working at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in insurance and billing. Later she resumed a similar function working at Dr. Mary Conway's office on the waterfront in Washington.

    She also lived in Belvoir and Conetoe before returning to Beaufort county several years ago. She was an active supporter of breast cancer survivors and participated in many events, especially Relay for Life.

    Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wood "Doc" Heath, Sr. and parents, Bonner and Berline Hawkins.

    She is survived by her sons, Troy Heath and wife, Laurie, of Greenville, Herbert Wood Heath, Jr., and Brian Heath and fiancé, Penelope, all of Washington; grandchildren, Joshua Benjamin Heath, Breanna Heath, Herbert Wood Heath, III, Bryan Ashton Heath, Jackson Heath, Brandon Woodard, Bret Woodard, and Taylor McKnight; great-granddaughter, Mallory; sisters, Linda Bullock, of Conetoe, Bonnie Reason, and Jane Hannah; and brothers, Bonner Hawkins, Jr. and Robert Hawkins, all of Washington.

    The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Greater Pamlico Area Chapter, 135 N. Market St., Washington, NC 27889.
