      Tuesday, September 2, 2014       Palmetto Boardwalk Hike       2:00 pm

    Take a walk through a hardwood swamp and see how it’s changing into a marsh. Meet at the visitor center.

      Saturday, September 6, 2014       Fishing for Beginners       10:00 am

    We will discuss a little fish biology and spend the rest of the time fishing off of the swim beach. Space is limited, so please call the office at (252) 923-2191 to sign up and get more information.

      Saturday, September 13, 2014       Movies with the Stars: Harry and the Hendersons       8:00 pm

    What a fantastic family movie to watch outside! Join us in Flicker Field, located across from the visitor center, to create an amazing memory. The Hendersons are your typical fun, nature-loving family that accidentally hit a Big Foot while heading home from a family camping trip. The movie is filled with thrills and giggles. Please bring your own seating. There is a drink machine located next to the visitor center, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.

      Sunday, September 14, 2014       A Hike Through History       2:00 pm

    Enjoy a beautiful afternoon hiking along the Pamlico River. We will make multiple stops throughout the one-mile hike to share North Carolina history. Topics will include Indian heritage, early settlers, Blackbeard the Pirate and the naval store industries. Meet the ranger at the last parking lot.

      Tuesday, September 16, 2014       Hurricane Season       10:00 am

    Come learn about how hurricanes form, where they come from and why they track the way they do. We will also discuss some of the hurricane history of this area. Meet in the visitor center.

      Saturday, September 20, 2014       Animal Tracks       10:00 am

    Meet at the River Access Picnic Area off the 2nd parking lot. We will be making animal track books to take home! We will then explore the animal tracks on the Huckleberry Trail. Please call ahead to reserve your animal track book at the park office (252) 923-2191. In case of inclement weather this program will then meet at the park visitor center to complete the animal track books and the hike will be postponed.

      Saturday, September 20, 2014       Mallard Creek Hike       2:00 pm

    An easy one-mile round-trip hike through pine-hardwood forests ends at a small overlook on Mallard Creek. Wear sturdy footwear, bring water and binoculars. Meet in the last parking lot.

      Sunday, September 21, 2014       Bear-y FUN       10:00 pm

    Meet at the park visitor center to participate in a bear craft to take home! This program and craft is geared toward children 3 and older. Learn fun facts about the bears in Eastern North Carolina. Then take a walk on our Palmetto Boardwalk in search of bear evidence. This will be bear-y fun! Please call ahead to reserve your bear craft at the park office (252) 923-2191.

      Sunday, September 21, 2014       GOOSE CREEK STATE PARK CELEBRATING 40 YEARS       3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

    The Goose Creek State Park 40th anniversary celebration will take place at the visitor center on Sunday September 21st from 3 to 5. Meet with park staff and Friends of Goose Creek members to enjoy live music and view art contest entries from area 6th graders. Light refreshments will be available.

Washington, N.C. – The inaugural Rivers East Advanced Manufacturing Academy took place at Pitt Community College on Friday, September 23rd.

The Rivers East Workforce Development Board has been awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant (NDWTG) in the amount of $275,000 to assist the employees of the QVC Rocky Mount Distribution Center that reside in the Rivers East region.
