    Shirley Fornes Godley, age 68, a resident of Hodges Rd., Chocowinity, NC, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at her home.

    Shirley was born in Washington, NC on December 29, 1945 daughter of the late Johhnie Fornes and Ruby Patterson Fornes. She attended Chocowinity High School. On February 2, 1972, Shirley was married to Charlie Ray Godley who survives. She was a meat cutter and last worked for D & H Red & White, Chocowinity, NC.

    Shirley is survived by her husband, Charlie Ray Godley; her sisters, Darlene Garrett of Chocowinity, Muriel Fornes of Greenville, and Fannie Edwards of Swansboro; her nieces (honorary children) Tammy Fornes of Wilson and Barbara Wilkins of Washington, NC.

    In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmie, Curtis James and Mayhew Fornes, and Dallas Koonce; and her sisters, Katie Fornes and Ann Bowan.

    A celebration of her life will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Davin Phillips. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of Barbara Wilkins, 250 Mansfield Rd., Washington, NC.
