    Lena Rivers Bennett Carter, 95, formerly of Gatesville, and more recently of Commonwealth Assisted Living in Kilmarnock, VA, died Thursday, November 27, 2014.

    Mrs. Carter was born in Beaufort County, NC on December 6, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Walter Hugh and Annie Best Bennett. A retired self-employed beautician, she was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas C. Little, Sr. and Hershell Winslow Carter; and by her daughter-in-law, Susan B. Little.

    Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca L. Johnson and husband Neil of Burgess, VA; her son, Thomas C. Little, Jr. of Washington, NC; four grandchildren, John Johnson and wife Melinda, Robin Johnson and husband Scott Craig, Thomas C. "Chuck" Little, III and wife Tonya, and Selena Rouse and husband Allen; and seven great-grandchildren, Justin Little, Alex Rouse, Olivia, Cleo, and Eva Craig, and Eric and Lauren Johnson.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 4th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by the Rev. Gene Asbill. A graveside service will be held that afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, NC, and will be officiated by the Rev. Steve Hill. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services on Thursday.
