News Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Senator Bill Cook (R-District 1) issued the following statement today, Thursday, Dec. 04, 2014, after the North Carolina Board of Transportation released a draft of the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP):

“I am extremely pleased to see financing included in the draft STIP for the Mid-Currituck County Bridge. Since getting to Raleigh, I have been advocating and promoting the need for the Mid-Currituck County Bridge in the Northeastern part of the state. One of the most critical obligations for the bridge is to reduce the hurricane clearance time for residents and visitors during an emergency evacuation,” Cook said. “This transportation announcement is a key development for Northeastern North Carolina, and I thank Governor McCrory, Secretary Tata and N.C. DOT Division 1 Board Member Malcolm Fearing for their continued leadership on this project.”

Cook serves as an advisory member on the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee. The responsibility of the committee is to review reports prepared by the N.C. Department of Transportation and to monitor the N.C. Highway Trust Fund, the Highway Fund, the General Fund, or any other fund when expenditures are related to transportation.
