    Jesse Wayne Jefferson, age 72, a resident of Old Sparta, formerly of Washington, died Thursday December 11, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center.

    A funeral service will be held on Sunday December 14, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Pastor Henry Parker and Willy Bell. The burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    Mr. Jefferson was born in Beaufort County on August 3, 1942 to the late William Robert and Rosa Cox Jefferson. On August 23, 1988 he married Shelby Foster, who survives. Mr. Jefferson worked for 33 years in A&P and also worked for Food Lion for 14 years. In his spare time he was interested in many things including genealogy, traveling, history and even coin collecting. Mr. Jefferson was a long time member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington and was a current member of the Belvoir Free Will Baptist Church in Belvoir.

    In addition to his wife Shelby, Mr. Jefferson is survived by three sons, Jesse Wayne Jefferson, Jr. and wife Sherry of Washington, Robert Thomas Jefferson, of Washington, Terry Little and wife Ann of Belvoir, three daughters, Susan Jefferson Smith and husband Chuck of Washington, Polly Jefferson Farmer and husband Johnny Mac of Robersonville, Stacy Little Hill and husband Doug of Winterville, 10 grandchildren, Jessica Jefferson, Jesselyn Jefferson, Nigel Smith, Trevor Smith, McCray Jefferson, Sarah Jefferson, Dawson Farmer, Brian Little, Aubrey Hill, and Hadley Hill, one brother William Earl Jefferson and wife Devere of Chocowinity, and one sister Jean Gunnells and husband John of Chocowinity.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Jefferson is preceded in death by his son Josh McCray Jefferson.

    The family will receive friends at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington on Saturday December 13, 2014 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and other times at the home.
