Chocowinity EMS Loses Ambulance then Recovers It. | Eastern North Carolina Now

ALERT: Choco Ambulance stolen from Vidant

    GREENVILLE, N.C.     A Chocowinity EMS Ambulance was stolen from Vidant Medical Center on Saturday, January 3rd.

    Amy Holcombe, the Junior Media Specialist for Vidant Medical Center says an ambulance was stolen Saturday evening from the hospital.

    Holcombe says several agencies including Vidant Police are working together on the investigation.

    Holcombe could not comment if the ambulance was returned, pending an investigation.

Choco Ambulance recovered

    "There was an incident involving the unauthorized use of a Chocowinity ambulance at Vidant Medical Center Saturday evening. The vehicle was recovered within minutes with no damage. No one was harmed in the incident, and the person involved has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle."

    Moving forward, Chocowinity EMS says it will make some changes to protocol, inlcluding using an area for transport vehicles where they can turn engine off and lock doors.

    Vidant's protocol is to leave the engine running and doors unlocked so they can move ambulances quickly if another one needs to come in.
