Gullfest 2015 To Feature First Miss Gullfest Pageant | Eastern NC Now

    Gullfest, the spring festival at Beaufort County Community College to be held April 18 and 19, will feature a new event for the 2015 event — the first Miss Gullfest Pageant.

    Pageant organizers hope to draw participants to compete for nine titles while raising money for scholarships and other activities of the BCCC Foundation and college community.

    "As part of the larger Gullfest 2015 Spring Festival at BCCC, the Miss Gullfest pageant is a unique opportunity for participants to become a part of the BCCC community as title holders will represent the college at local events throughout the year," said Sara Singleton, chairman of the event.

    "Young ladies from preschool to high school and current BCCC students are encouraged to take part in the pageant and be crowned Miss Gullfest," she said.

    The pageant is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the Multi-Purpose Room of Building 10 on the BCCC campus.

    The registration fee is $75 for each contestant which will be refunded if the contestant raises $150 in sponsorships from family, friends or local businesses. The registration deadline is March 20.

    Miss Gullfest 2015 is part of a weekend-long list of activities at the college during Gullfest 2015. These include a car show, crafts and food vendors, music and the pageant on Saturday and the inaugural five-kilometer Gull Run on Sunday afternoon.

    The pageant will include competition in five divisions — Preschool through second grade for Tiny Miss Gullfest; third through fifth grades for Little Miss Gullfest; sixth through eighth grades for Teen Miss Gullfest; ninth through 12th grades for Miss Gullfest and College Miss Gullfest for current BCCC students.

    A maximum of 15 contestants will be accepted per division.

    Miss Gullfest is a natural pageant, according to Singleton, with total wigs and esthetic embellishments to teeth will be disallowed. Specific requirements for each division are listed in the Miss Gullfest 2015 Packet.

    "We welcome fresh scrubbed faces and pretty dresses," she said.

    Contestants must live within the BCCC service area of Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties or have a family member who does. Contestants in the college division must be currently enrolled BCCC students but are not required to live in the service area.

    Nine titles will be awarded including titles from each of the five divisions as well as Supreme Miss Gullfest chosen from the Tiny and Little Miss Gullfest divisions and from the Teen and Miss Gullfest divisions; Elite Miss Gullfest recognizing the contestant who raises the most money for the Foundation, and Miss Beaufort County Community College chosen from the College Miss Gullfest division.
