DHHS Medicaid Director Robin Cummings Receives NCAFP 2014 Presidential Award | Eastern NC Now

    RALEIGH — Robin Cummings, M.D., Department of Health and Human Services Medicaid Director, received the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians' (NCAFP) 2014 Presidential Award at its Winter Family Physicians Weekend Conference. Presented by board chair William A. Dennis, M.D., the NCAFP Presidential Award is given to a person who has helped move North Carolina health care forward.

    "[Dr. Cummings] is working tirelessly to bridge the needs of our primary care providers, the legislature, Medicaid recipients and the state's taxpayers," said Dennis. "Most importantly, he is an advocate for the patients served by Medicaid and those providing care for these patients."

    Dr. Cummings has led Medicaid since April 2014.

    "Dr. Cummings has dedicated his life to improving the health of North Carolinians, and he knows firsthand that a sustainable Medicaid program is one that is provider led and patient centered," said DHHS Secretary Aldona Wos, M.D. "This prestigious award is recognition of his commitment to whole-person patient care and successful collaboration with providers, both of which are absolutely crucial to effective health care delivery to the citizens of North Carolina."

    North Carolina's Medicaid program oversees health care delivery for more than 1.8 million low-income parents, children, seniors and people with disabilities who cannot afford health care. The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians is the state's largest specialty medical association, with a membership of more than 3,700 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students. The NCAFP is a federated chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
