Tillis, Burr Announce NC Student Leaders Selected for Senate Youth Program | Eastern North Carolina Now

    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Richard Burr (R-NC) announced the selection of two North Carolina students for the 53rd United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). The Senators jointly applauded the outstanding educational achievements of Victor Agbafe and Christine McDow, both of Wilmington, NC.

    "North Carolina is proud to have two young leaders like Victor and Christine representing our great state. Young men and women like these two are why North Carolina has such a bright future ahead. I wish them the best of luck in this program," Senator Burr said.

    "I am enthused and proud of these two young leaders, whose early dedication to their education and local communities proves future generations will continue to lead our country down a path of greatness," Senator Tillis said.

    Agbafe and McDow are deeply involved in public service, earning their enrollment into the extremely competitive USSYP program. The program, sponsored by the U.S. Senate and fully funded by The Hearst Foundations, accepts only 104 students each year and awards the student delegates with $5,000 in undergraduate scholarship funds.

    During their time in Washington, the USSYP student delegates attend meetings and briefings with Senators, House Representatives and Congressional staff, the President, a Justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, an Ambassador to the United States, and senior members of the national media.
