Phillip Wayne Waters Sr. | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Phillip Wayne Waters, Sr., age 88, a resident of Pinetown, NC, died Thursday, September 10, 2026.

    A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be officiated by Mike Caton. Burial will follow in Latham Cemetery, located on Long Ridge Road in Pinetown. Pallbearers will be Tyler Waters, Alex Waters, Tyler Almond, Keith Wallace, Carl Waters and Gary Wallace.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and at other times at the home.

    Mr. Waters was born in Beaufort County on January 28, 1938, the son of the late Charlie Evans Waters and the late Margie Gray Waters. He was a 1956 graduate of Bath High School. He married the former Calie Jeannette Woolard, who preceded him in death, and on February 13, 1988, he married the former Alice Faye Smith, who survives.

    Many knew him through his work as the owner-operator of Renn Taff Office Supply in Washington. In his spare time and following retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching NASCAR racing. Mr. Waters retired from the Pinetown Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Northern Dismal Hunting Club, where he served on its board of directors. He was also a member of Rosemary Church of Christ.

    Surviving, along with his wife, Faye, of the home, are his sons, Tony Waters and his wife, Penny, of Pinetown; Donald Smith of Chocowinity; J. R. Key of Washington State; and Thomas Key of Havelock; and his daughter, Mary Helen Jones of Pinetown. Also surviving are his sister, Donna Pippin, and her husband, Don of Williamston; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

    In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Waters was preceded in death by two sons, Phillip "Wayne" Waters, Jr. and Timothy Adams Waters; also a brother, Stephen Waters.
