Grocery Store Tours Teach Healthy Eating On A Budget | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: The author of this post, Natalie Taft, is a contributor to ECU News Services.

Throughout the month of March, in recognition of National Nutrition Month, the East Carolina University Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center and Pitt Partners for Health are offering free grocery store tours aimed at teaching community members how to eat healthy on a limited budget.

Participants will discuss nutritional, budget-friendly meal ideas. The Vidant Medical Foundation will provide $10 gift cards at the end of the tours so participants can apply their newfound knowledge by purchasing healthy foods to take home.

Pitt Partners for Health is a community improvement partnership with representatives from local churches, businesses, communities and human service agencies. The group responds collaboratively to the compelling health needs of Pitt County residents through assessment, resource identification, development of citizen advocacy, comprehensive planning and coordination of health intervention and prevention strategies.

To register, visit www.localstrides.com or contact Kristen Brooks at 252-847-8265.

NOTE TO MEDIA: Natalie Taft, a registered dietitian/nutritionist with the Brody School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics, is available for media interviews on the topic of nutritional, budget-friendly eating. Contact Amy Ellis at ellisa14@ecu.edu or 252-744-3764 to schedule an interview.
