Peggy Smith McCollum | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Peggy Smith McCollum, age 67, a resident of 1204 West 5th Street, Washington, NC died Tuesday March 24, 2015.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 28, 2015 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Dr. Keith Hudson. Robert McCollum, James McCollum, Charles McCollum, Scott Baytala, James Swain and Kenny Whaley will serve as pallbearers. Michael Allen and David Engebretsen will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mrs. McCollum was born in Beaufort County on January 10, 1948 to the late Robert E. Lee Smith and Pearlie Mae Alligood. On August 13, 1966, she married Charles L. McCollum, Jr. who preceded her in death on November 15, 1973. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.

    Survivors include her daughter Crystal McCollum of Washington; three sons, Charles Leo McCollum and wife Kelly of Chocowinity, James McCollum of Washington and Robert McCollum of the home; four sisters, Opal Woolard and husband Melvin of Washington, Sally Swain of Washington, Pearl Morris and husband Paul of Jamesville, Shella Boyette of Jamesville; two brothers, Robert Smith and wife Brenda of Jamesville and Chuck Smith and wife Lou of Washington; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a life-long friend, Burnice Padgett. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Whaley.

    The family will receive friends Friday March 27, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of Sally Swain, 65 Country Lane, Washington.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Peggy McCollum Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, N.C. 27889.
