Beaufort County Commissioners will meet at the Washington High School auditorium for their May 4, regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting begins at 5:00 PM.

The location was changed at the request of Adam ONeal, mayor of the Town of Belhaven. Mayor ONeal is giving an update on the reopening of the Pungo Medical Center. Mayor ONeal is scheduled to present at 6:45 PM. Those interested are advised to be present before when the meeting starts at 5:00 PM Several questions were raised at the April Commissioners meeting.

Supporters of the reopening of the hospital are encouraged to attend. The Town is using eminent domain to obtain title to the property. Pantego Creek, LLC had repeatedly promised to deed the hospital to the Town or to the Pungo Medical Center, Inc. They failed to produce a deed when requested.

There will be an expense to the Town to use eminent domain. That appraisal is due to be presented to the Town before the meeting with commissioners at their May 4 meeting. The Town is faced with having to raise the appraised amount before approaching the court for the taking by eminent domain.
