        Alton Ray Campbell died in hospice care surrounded by his children and grandchildren on April 25, 2015 in Kansas City, MO.

    He was born March 6, 1944 to Sadie Ray (Harris) Campbell and Albert Junior Campbell. He had six brothers and sisters: Jackie, Gene, William, Linda Sue, Joyce and Jerry Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jackie and Joyce Campbell.

    He grew up in Washington NC and graduated from Washington High School in 1962. He then served in the United States Army base in Colorado Springs as Sergeant for four years. He was a father to five children: Anthony Campbell (deceased as an infant), Kenneth Campbell, Cassandra (Campbell) Decker, Amorette (Campbell) Bryant, Scott Campbell, and a grandfather to Blake Patton, Joy Decker, Anthony Bryant, Nickolas Bryant, Alana Calvillo, and Andrew Calvillo.

    He worked as a truck driver in Teamsters Local 610 and 604 in Saint Louis, MO for over 32 years before retiring. He had a great love of the mountains and lived in Libby Montana for several years. He then moved back to Missouri for a time. The last three years he moved back to Washington, NC to be near his family.

    A military service will take place at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, 161 Avon Ave., Washington, North Carolina on Sunday 05/31/2015 at 1:00pm. All are welcome. He was cremated and will have his ashes scattered at the top of a mountain in Colorado at a later date, per his wishes. Alton will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
