Stop Oppressing People for Who They Are (gay marriage) | Eastern North Carolina Now

In reaction recently to the "advancement" of LGBT rights in North Carolina, I have seen/heard of many who are somehow angered by this; as though in some way two men/women/nonbinary(identifying as neither of the two main genders) people being married will harm them. This misconception is incredibly outrageous, and I am astonished that this article has to exist. But a lot of people on this site simply don't get that some people are different, we aren't all just a bunch of clones.

The main argument I hear against gay marriage (it is preferred by most of the LGBT community you refer to it as this because gay is used as an umbrella term and includes a larger demographic that needs to be addressed) is "God condemns it", therefore by some state of logic it should be made illegal. Let me point you to the first words of a document, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." Literally what this is saying is there cannot use your religion to make laws. PLEASE STOP MIXING RELIGION INTO POLITICS AND CALLING IT SOMETHING STUPID LIKE "THE AMERICAN WAY."

I could argue that Christianity doesn't condemn gay marriage, but I won't because on that subject people will always choose what they want to believe despite the evidence given. This is not a "Christian Nation" as many are inclined to call it, not at all. America is not a nation founded on so-called "Christian values," having a religious basis for our government is the most dangerous thing we could do. If you start making religious law, laws in the government, we will have a theocracy, not a republic.

Laws are made to protect the public. What does a law banning gay marriage protect? Don't say something like the sanctity of marriage, that is personal ideal; no one is harmed. People getting married doesn't invalidate your marriage because a contract between the people who agreed to it. That's all marriage is, a contract!

People are who they are, it is evil to oppress them when they never hurt you. Saying that "it's the way things have always been" is like saying "we shouldn't look for a cancer cure because we've gone this long without one."

But here is the thing Gene.

I am tired of the issue being foisted upon the rest of us - sex, sex, sex - the weirder the better, as if there was little else to talk about.

Is this what American society will look like until it all turns really bad, or: Will the American economy turn verifiably positive, the Murderous Muslims decide that they know longer have a need to slaughter Christians and Jews, times are safe and good, and then what does the subject become in even greater abundance in today's Leftest Media - Sex, Sex and more weird SEX?

That is no environment to raise future generations of a good people.

"And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes."

Gentlemen --- we are all grown in minds, yet troubled with the "bain of weird sex."

I, as a Believer and Bible researcher, have tried my best to seek what the Bible says. It certainly is clear on Jewish hate of homosexuality. It covers nothing from other cultures of the day which considered gay behaviour as "special." In both Greek and Roman cultures is was "part of their program."

Jesus, basically, SAID NOTHING! He clearly called followers to love and forgive one another. The other thing in the Bible is the admonition to "speak the truth in love." Without love and consideration to others we always create discord.

What is most interesting to me as a fellow Southern Gentleman is the fact that in each small town there is a fluffy guy who is tolerated and talked about behind-the-back. The women love them and make sure they are at a social function playing the piano (only Liberace is a known gay pianist---so leave it at that).

I agree with everything Bobby Tony just said, except I am not quite as gentile in my statements on these obvious truths, and Bobby, you have nothing to apologize for.

Bobby Tony, you are a true Southern gentleman, even though Bruce/Caitlin will no longer be.

Soon I will some about this subject and much about others somewhat similar to this narcissistic expression of the weird, in my new POP America! series, and I will be far less generous than Bobby Tony.

See you again, and hopefully soon my friend.

Christopher, I apologize for the rude, boorish and sophomoric attempt at humor. Your position is clearly and eloquently stated. I try to truly understand and sympathize with any transgender person who struggles with these issues. My comment is directed at the commercialization aspect of Caitlyn Jenner’s plight. It is her right to live her life as she wishes. My crude point is that this whole family has made a fortune out of public displaying their dysfunctional lives. That opens them up, in my opinion, to public criticism. I question the timing and marketing of her story but not the decision. You will find in life that opportunities and challenges often can be turned into a finically gain. This is as it should be, but it it often overshadows the underlying pain and trauma the situation begets.
For those who seem to think that Caitlyn's decision displays courage, I would disagree. Courage would have been to make this choice 40 years ago. You may be too young to remember the same issue surfaced some 40 years ago. Dr. Renée Richards made the same choice in a much more judgmental time. You may need to look her story up.
I admire your passion and seriousness on this and other issues and you probably deserve more respect that my flippant comment displays, but you have the benefit of youth and earnestness that some of us older folks no longer have.
Do not let my caviler approach to this story deter you from your search for understanding in this world. It is just that sometimes old age brings a broader understanding which results in a cynical view of the motivations of others. The old Greek plays depict "the Comedy and Tragedy Masks” as two sides of the same condition.
Your concern has properly chastised me for poking fun of at the situation. The comment was not a criticism of you but of the absurdity of the crass commercial aspects of this charade.
I wholeheartedly support and endorse Caitlyn’s right to use this as a means to make money. I just do not attach the same moral superiority to the choice, as do others.
Lastly do not let the locker room humor deter you from you pursuit of understanding, or in the language of some, much older and wiser times “Illegitimi non carborundum”.
You just keep writing and exploring your understanding of the nuisances of life. You will meet many a court jester in your pursuit of knowledge. Acknowledge them as what we are, a clown or buffoon whose job is to entertain, and no more. Like many, I lost my idealism long ago and have given up the search to regain it. My wish for you is that you never lose yours. Guard it and protect it, it will be difficult but perhaps the reward will be worth the effort.

You got the last laugh young man!

Bobby Tony has me rolling on the floor and frothing at the mouth. The old saying, "Better to laugh than to cry" --- comes immediately to my mind!!!

Christopher: They did not misinterpret. The message is clear. This is a playful bunch of folks who are as lost as a ball in high weeds. See the Clown Logo.
OOPs, I am on the wrong article. Senior moment. See you next article.

For me, I don't care about the He/She. What I do care about is POP America's embrace of the bigot reference, as if POP America would actually know what bigotry actually was, or is, and then be offended when folks far wiser than they challenge them on it.

In this victimized society, which is at the core of POP America, I see little good coming from it.

Ergo, the challenge. A challenge that POP America is substantively unable of countering, hence, the bigot word will get thrown around as if it still has any real meaning in the mouth of a POP American.

Also on the subject of pop news, this is about human rights not "OMG DID YOU SEE WHAT MILEY DID WITH THAT FOAM FINGER ON STAGE?!? THAT WAS LIKE TOTS EDGY." That is pop news, I'm talking about human rights. On my next articles, I have a plan to prevent misinterpretations.
( June 7th, 2015 @ 4:24 pm )

Okay, it seems I have a huge problem with people misinterpreting my motives... I have no interest in sex, it's gross and it is pretty pointless seeing as we are at high risk of overpopulation right now. I did this article because everyday on this site I see so many of you acting as though gay marriage will hurt you in some way. This isn't an article about sex, it is an article about human rights!

Now on the Subject of Caitlyn Jenner. That is a slightly different issue, but it is an LGBT issue, trangender. How I look at it, good for her; she choose to express who she is. I think people made a bigger deal about it then it already is, BUT DON'T BE A BIGOT ABOUT IT. Don't intentionally use incorrect pronouns, or their previous name, when referring to a trans person, it is quite rude. They did nothing to effect you.

Freaking A!

What "courage" must possess the former Olympic Decathlon gold medalist. Still, let's hear it now for the "nuts".

Bruce / Kaitlin just wanted to get back on the New Wheaties Formula box. This time without nuts.
