The Importance of Protecting your Identity | Eastern North Carolina Now

Do not throw away any mail with your address on it.

Do not throw away any mail with your address on it. You never know who is looking in your garbage

Today is garbage collection day in the old folk's home. We are instructed to place our trash cans out before daybreak and take them in before dark on the same day. Any continuous breach of this protocol could result in a "Letter from the Association Committee". (ASSCOM)

We are also very environmentally conscious in this neighborhood, so we have a recycle box. It is proper location next to the trashcan. There is a long list of what can and what cannot be in the recycle box.

They do not tell us about this, but I have heard that you should not put old mail in either box because someone might go through you trash and get your address and steal your identity.

I once had some guy steal my identity. Boy was he pissed. Said he had not had that much bad luck in his entire life. Just for retaliation, I stole his identity. I have not been laid so much in my entire life. He does not think it was a fair trade.

I have a shredder and a stamp that I use to destroy or hide any mention of my address. I don't particularly have anything worth stealing but just to "protecting my identity", I offer this for your consideration. Just click on the underlined phrase and you can review how to protect your identity. You may want to fast forward until about the three-minute portion of this clip to find the dangers of not hiding your name and address.

Old Folks need all the instruction we can get.
