Heat Advisory: June 22, 2015 | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

    Good Monday Morning:

Just your local Emergency Management Office wanting to alert you to the National Weather Service Heat Advisory issued today. Please take note of this issue as it appears we will have another week of heat index's above 100 degrees every day this week if the forecast holds. Please remember that heat injuries are one of the easiest to prevent, but do require us to lead by example when it comes to maintaining hydration, cooling off period and common sense when it concerns unnecessary exposure to the heat. Employees with chronic health issues or recovering from a serious illness or injury are at the higher end of the risk index when it comes to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

As the week progresses the possibility of severe thunderstorms increases and cloud to ground lighting is likely. Each thunder storm will have the capability of producing damaging winds (60 mph), heavy wind driven rain and hail. I know this is just normal Carolina summer storm patter for us, however, the heat we have been experiencing this month is above normal.
