    Mrs. Velma "Boots" Edwards Parvin, age 85, a resident of Hillcrest Dr., Washington, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 3, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Danny Allen. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    Mrs. Parvin was born in Beaufort County on July 31, 1929, to the late Clyde and Alice Mixon Edwards. On June 11, 1949, she married James Burbank Parvin who preceded her in death on June 6, 2007. She was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School and received an Associate Degree from Edgecombe Community College. She was employed as a substitute teacher for many years and served as secretary for her husband, Rev. James B. Parvin while he served as the Greenville District Superintendent for the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church.

    Survivors include two sons, James DeWayne Parvin and wife Margaret Ann of Mt. Olive, NC, Douglas Edward Parvin and wife Belinda of Morehead City, NC, one daughter, Linda Parvin Howard and husband Danny of Washington, seven grandchildren, Natalie Parvin Griffith and husband Benjamin, Ashley Parvin Daniels and husband Donald, Bridget Parvin Soistman and husband Benjamin, Brandon Douglas Parvin, Sarah Ashton Parvin, Dera Courtney Howard and Danny Carroll Howard II, and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister in law, Joyth Hill Edwards of Washington. She was preceded in death by her brother, Grover Allen Edwards.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the service in the Women's Parlor at the First United Methodist Church.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 715, 304 W. 2nd St., Washington, NC 27889 or to the charity of one's choice.
