Celebrate Historic Preservation. This Place Matters. | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The City of Greenville will celebrate the value of protecting the city's historic structures and character with a day of workshops on July 30, 2015. Historic preservation is a vital tool for protecting the city's heritage, revitalizing its neighborhoods, enhancing the quality of life, and stimulating economic development in the city. 
Under the theme, This Place Matters, the day-long event will consist of presentations and workshops to engage and educate local contractors, developers, and residents on historic preservation and preservation-related initiatives happening in Greenville. Staff and community leaders will lead discussions on how attendees can be involved in preservation in their community.

    This Place Matters is an educational and advocacy campaign initiated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to encourage the celebration of local places across the United States. The National Trust says, "Every single person in the country has places that are important to them. Places they care about. Places that matter." This sentiment is the motivating force behind historic preservation in Greenville. It will continue as a community engagement campaign as the City celebrates the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act in 2016.
