Bobby Tony responds to Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Post | Eastern North Carolina Now

It is a serious attempt to respond outside of the comment section.

I have confined my comments on Gene Scarborough's Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty post to gentle and not so gentle humorous pokes at Gene. The subject is serious and important and deserves consideration but I doubt anything is settled in the comment section. Gene's purpose is noble and deserves serious thought. I believe, however, that an alternate opinion on the subject should be a separate post without starting what Ted McDonald calls a shin-kicking contest.

I have tried to extract several of Gene's points from the hyperbole and exaggeration that we both use in our post and comments. Here is a summary of his points and my response. I do not ask you to renew the discussion in the comment section. Just use the Emory Technique that Gene often refers to: Examine the facts and form your own opinion. Then if you feel compelled to engage, create a post of your own and notify the two Senators of North Carolina how you wish them to vote on this treaty. It is not important where this post is placed on BCN or how many hits it gets.

Here Goes first Gene's then mine:

1 - As a matter of fact, the Document is already signed after months of negotiations under the guiding hand of John Kerry and the Obama Administration. The sending of it to Congress is but a courtesy. Their vote makes no real difference in whether it is in place or not!

1A - BT - I have already commented on this. The constitution requires treaties to be ratified by the Senate. Click here for Constitutional Context

2 We all know the hate and lack of moral character of Fundamentalist Terrorists. That is equally true of Warmongers ruling the US Military since Kennedy was killed before he could remove us from Vietnam.

2A - BT - The specific purpose of the Military is to conduct war and destroy enemies. That is why we have civilian control over the use of Military power. We need to get back to the principal that both the congress and the executive branch should be involved in any decision to conduct large-scale military operations. When and if we do decide to use Military force we should "Kick ass and take no names within the Geneva constraints of treaties which we have signed and ratified" Most of our past problems with military involvement have been flawed due to limited objectives and overly restrictive use of force. GS please note the Geneva Convention is a complicated legal document with nuanced language.

3 - Puff and blow all you want, but this Nonproliferation Treaty is our chance to live and enjoy the beauty of Eastern NC along with all our progeny.

3A - BT - The agreement or Treaty is not our one and only chance. The only other option is not a nuclear war. Iran has already shown through words and actions that it will not live up to the terms of this agreement. Disagreement on ratification is not a sign of war mongering. There are legitimate factual disputes on the treaty that deserve evaluation and debate. If in fact this is the best deal we can get, I offer that as prima fascia evidence that Iran has no intention of adhering to its terms.

Bobby Tony, you have the right idea here.

Putting this in a formal post creates a longevity of purpose. A strength of ideal.

My advice to Gene, if you read this, is to do the same as B.T., pose your response in a post copy and paste as B.T. has done., and form it into a post.
