News Release:

WASHINGTON, D.C.     On Friday, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) became an original cosponsor of a resolution to begin impeachment proceedings against EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy for committing perjury on more than one occasion this year while testifying to Congress about the Waters of the United States rule (WOTUS). EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy committed perjury on three separate occasions this year while testifying before Congress on the WOTUS rule by lying about the scientific evidence the EPA cited supporting the rule and the EPA’s cooperation with the Army Corps of Engineers.

“The EPA has been out of control for a long time, especially in the Obama era,” said Congressman Jones. “The EPA routinely produces overzealous regulations that cost the American taxpayers billions of dollars a year and infringe on fundamental property rights. It is unacceptable that the EPA administrator lied under oath to Congress in trying to cover up the fact that the WOTUS rule is not based on sound science. She should be removed and the WOTUS rule should be rescinded.”

In May, Congressman Jones voted to block the Obama administration’s EPA from putting the WOTUS rule into effect. The bill passed the House but was not taken up in the Senate. The WOTUS rule went into effect on August 28, 2015.

Earlier this year, Congressman Jones voted for two bills that would require the EPA to keep lobbyists off the Science Advisory Board and to make available the scientific studies and evidence behind new regulations.
