    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Yesterday, the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee held a legislative meeting to consider several bills introduced to help improve our bureaucratically flawed VA system and prioritize the men and women who have served our nation. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), questioned panelists on their support for two bills he has introduced to increase educational opportunities for our veterans:

    S. 1460, co-sponsored by Tillis and Senator Brown (D-OH), the Fry Scholarship Enhancement Act of 2015, would authorize Yellow Ribbon program eligibility for dependents receiving Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits under the Fry scholarship.

    S. 1938, co-sponsored by Tillis and Senator Blumenthal (D-CT), the Career Ready Student Veterans Act, would require that programs of education designed to prepare students for licensure or certification by a state, or for employment subject to the approval of a state board or agency, must meet any state curriculum requirements or be approved or licensed by the appropriate state entity in order for the course to be approved for VA educational benefits.

    Following the proceeding, Senator Tillis released the following statement:

    "It's critical we provide our young veterans and their families with additional educational opportunities to succeed in the civilian workforce. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the passage of these bills and finding additional solutions that move our nation closer to fulfilling our obligation to providing veterans with the quality education and health care they deserve."
