ECU to host forums for chancellor search

 Through a series of eight public forums, East Carolina University is seeking input from faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members in the search for a new chancellor.

 The forums will offer an opportunity for the ECU community to weigh in on the characteristics and qualifications they would like to see in the university's next leader.

 Three of the forums will take place regionally — in the east, the Triangle, and the western parts of the state — in addition to two student forums, two for faculty and staff, and a Greenville/Pitt County session.

 "Getting input from the East Carolina community is a critical part of our search process," said Steve Jones, chair of the Chancellor Search Committee and of the ECU Board of Trustees. "We want to hear from all university constituencies about the qualities they'd like to see in the next chancellor. By hosting forums in all three regions of North Carolina, we're hoping to make these opportunities more accessible for our friends and alumni statewide."

 The Leadership Working Group, in conjunction with Witt/Kieffer, the contracted search firm, will use feedback from the forums and the online survey to complete the writing of a "leadership profile" when reaching out to qualified candidates.

 Chancellor Steve Ballard announced this summer his plans to step down effective July 1. He has served as chancellor since 2004.
