    Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory announced today that Bradley Hicks will lead the newly-created Employee Classification Section. This first-of-its-kind unit was established by Governor McCrory to combat employee misclassification practices with enhanced inter-agency cooperation.

"The Employee Classification Section will be North Carolina's watchdog against unethical businesses that attempt to skirt our state's laws," said Governor McCrory. "Breaking down silos to share information enables state regulators to effectively investigate violations without unnecessarily burdening the workforce and business community with additional laws and regulations."

Hicks previously served as the deputy director of the Department of Administration's Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB), where he managed the state's underutilized business certification and outreach programs. Prior to joining the Administration, Hicks was an attorney in Chapel Hill and also served as senior director of business development and human resources for a Raleigh area investment company. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and received his J.D. and M.B.A. from North Carolina Central University.

Signed by Governor McCrory on December 18, 2015, Executive Order 83 directs the chairman of the Industrial Commission to appoint a director to oversee the new section's work. Hicks will be the initial point of contact for reports of employee misclassification, referring such reports to the appropriate state agencies for investigation and any necessary enforcement action.

"I'm proud to appoint Bradley Hicks to direct the Employee Classification Section and lead the Administration's renewed commitment to fighting employee misclassification," said Industrial Commission Chairman Andrew Heath. "His professional knowledge and previous experience at HUB will add immediate value to this new initiative, and I am glad to have him join our team."
