In an effort to observe innovative teaching methods in action at a high-energy campus, Governor Pat McCrory visited students and teachers at Allen Jay Preparatory Academy.

 High Point, N.C.     In an effort to observe innovative teaching methods in action at a high-energy campus, Governor Pat McCrory visited students and teachers at Allen Jay Preparatory Academy.

"Allen Jay Prep is a shining example of innovative and engaging teaching at its finest," said Governor McCrory. "Today, I am listening to teacher leaders from Allen Jay Prep to discuss how we can work collaboratively to ensure student success across North Carolina."


 Governor McCrory kicked off the school day by addressing student scholars at their morning assembly to discuss how learning is about innovation, hard work and determination.

 The governor told students that a big part of leadership is listening. To this end, he then facilitated a meeting with teachers to discuss their experiences teaching at Allen Jay Middle and to share best practices.


 Following the meeting, Governor McCrory toured several classrooms to get a first-hand account of innovative teaching at work.

 Allen Jay Preparatory Academy is a public magnet middle school that is exceeding expected growth while gaining state and national acclaim for its work in extended learning. The school was established in 2013 to offer families in Guilford County with a leadership development and college preparatory option.
