Also, there will be a presentation by the NC Tenth Amendment Center (Deputy Director, Diane Rufino) on NULLIFICATION.

Thursday, February 18 - 6:00 pm at La Ribera Mexican Restaurant. Please join the ENC Tea Party on Thursday, February 18 to hear a presentation by UNITED WE STAND, a statewide grassroots activist group, on a plan to hold our elected officials accountable to the People.

Friday, February 19 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kings (BBQ) Restaurant, Hwy 70, in Kinston [Address: 405 E. New Bern Rd]. Please consider coming out to learn the important (very important) role the NC Council of State performs and why we concentrate our efforts on this Council.

The NC Council of State is a very important of NC government. It is a council that hails back to the Jackson-era style of divided executive leadership. That is, the executive branch of our state government is divided between the Governor and the NC Council of State (a 9-member group of elected officials). As you can imagine, when it is controlled by the opposing party in power, the Council is often used to curb the power of the Governor. This is why we need to work hard to elect Conservative candidates to assist the Governor, instead of curb his power. Of course, we would like a more consistently conservative Governor. The Council of State is a group of popularly elected executive offices in North Carolina including the Lieutenant Governor, Sec. of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, etc. It is separate from the North Carolina Cabinet, which is appointed by the Governor of North Carolina, and makes up the rest of the executive leadership of the government. However, Council of State members are often colloquially and erroneously called 'Cabinet members'.

Today, the Council of State meets periodically, with the Governor as chair, to allow for coordination and exchange of information across executive branch agencies and to vote on certain decisions, especially regarding the sale of state property, borrowing money, or making changes to capital punishment procedures.

    Current Members:

  • Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest (Republican)
  • Secretary of State Elaine Marshall (Democrat)
  • Attorney General Roy Cooper (Democrat)

Directions: If you travel Rt 11 out of Pitt County to Lenoir County, you will pass through Kinston and past the County Courthouse. After you see the Courthouse (on the right side; light at the intersection with Queen Street), continue to the second light past that. That is the intersection with Rt. 70. Make a left. Kings Restaurant will be on your right.

Thursday, February 25 - Pitt County Courthouse (100 W. Third Street; at the corner of 2nd Street and Evans St). 2016 Local and State Candidate Forum. Please come out on Thursday, Feb. 25 for this very special joint ENC Tea Party and Pitt County GOP event. In addition to a forum in which candidates will be asked their positions on various issues of concern to conservatives, there will be an introduction by our beloved Judge Rusty Duke (who has decided the time has come to retire) and musical entertainment by Karen Kozel's sister, Laurie. Radio show personality Tom Lamprect (Tom and Sadie Show) will be the forum's moderator.

Friday - Saturday, February 26-27 - in Charleston, SC. The Abbeville Institute's Conference: The PC Attack on the South.

The politically correct assault on Confederate symbols now includes nearly all things Southern. The statue of John C. Calhoun in Charleston was vandalized. Southern founding fathers are rejected because they were slave holders. Universities are removing or renaming buildings, monuments and symbols with links to the pre‑1960s South. Join the Abbeville Institute for a discussion of what these politically correct attacks mean for the future of the South and America, and why we should continue not only to recognize but to honor the South's role in shaping America. The Conference, entitled "The PC Attack on the South" will be held in Charleston for two days - February 26-27. The cost is $150.

Tuesday, March 1 - 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Hog Heaven, Rt. 264, Washington - Please join the Beaufort Tea Party Patriots and the ENC Tea Party as they welcome Buck Newton who is running for state Attorney General.

Buck Newton is running for NC Attorney General. Roy Cooper, who served several terms as Attorney General and who is now running for Governor of the state, had a history of refusing to defend the laws of our state. For example, he refused to defend the Defense of Marriage amendment to the state constitution, voted on by the citizens of the state by ballot initiative. Newton, on the other hand, believes strongly in the 10th Amendment and accordingly, he promises to defend the laws that the state and the people decide are best for them. On his website, he explains why he is running: "I have been fortunate to spend most of my adult life merging two of my great passions: public service and the law. My passion for the law has its roots in my love of Country and the realization that our Nation is like no other when it comes to the protection of our individual liberties. The laws we live by are designed to protect our God-given freedoms that are the basis of the United States Constitution and our North Carolina Constitution. These principles are the foundation on which this "shining city on a hill" is built. As an elected official, I strive to support legislation that reflects the values of North Carolina and protects our unique way of life. However, the overreaching arm of the Federal Government and its insatiable appetite for power has led to a steady erosion of our freedom. From our borders to our ballot box; our classrooms to our emergency rooms; the Federal Government is intruding in our lives and undermining the sovereignty of our State. The time has come to take a stand. Our State and Nation are at a crossroads. This is why I have decided to offer myself to serve North Carolina as the people's lawyer: the Attorney General."

He continues: "As your Attorney General, I will work tirelessly to protect your freedoms. I will fight to ensure that the lawful decisions made by the citizens of North Carolina are not overturned by an out-of-control Federal Government that ignores the 10th Amendment of the Constitution and its directive which states, "the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People."

If you would like to meet Buck and learn more about what he stands for and what he believes, please mark your calendar for March 1 at Hog Heaven.
