Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory hosted more than 110 Boy Scouts, Scout leaders, parents and public officials from across North Carolina at the Executive Mansion today to receive an annual report on the impact of Scouting in North Carolina. The report details more than 600,000 service hours completed by nearly 75,000 Scouts throughout the state in 2015.

"Investing in North Carolina's education, infrastructure and workforce development have been key priorities to prepare our state for future generations," said Governor McCrory. "Scouting is also preparing the future generations of leaders in our state and country, and their service to our communities helps make North Carolina the best state to live, work and raise a family."

During the ceremony, Governor McCrory presented Scout leaders, including Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby, a commemorative copy of a bill that the governor signed into law last year. Senate Bill 400 passed almost unanimously and directs schools to give groups such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts priority in the use of school facilities to increase access for students who want to participate in activities provided by these groups for the purpose of encouraging civic education.

Governor McCrory is joined by State Representatives Stephen Ross and Jamie Boles, Scouts, Scout leaders and Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby
