TMc: Gun Carry Permits | Eastern North Carolina Now

I hope to receive my carry permit next week and unlike driver license, education will begin after receiving the okay. A retired policeman vet buddy will bring me up to speed and hopefully allow me to publish an article or two. Today I will write about the process to date.

I went to the court house, filled out a three page application and answered that I was not accused or convicted of a crime, delivered my driver license for copy, and paid $75. After lunch, I proceeded to another building and they digitally scanned my hand and fingers for prints (no ink) and paid a $5 service charge. The permit will arrive after a background check.

My small automatic pistol will fit in an old cell phone case and I know from TV that I must fear for my life to use the weapon. I do not think I can shoot someone for trying to steal my car or walking out the door with my CD player. The victim must be banging my head onto a concrete walkway. If the perpetrator is injured not dead, I will need a stab wound to prove self-defense or I will be in deep chocolate. In other words, I do not know what I am talking about. I know from experience that the automatic slide goes across your hand and will leave a scar if not careful.

Conclusion: I have a gun and can carry it most anywhere. You hope me and the record number of others act responsibly. Link to record numbers

I owned and used hunting rifles until a thief broke in and stole them. It seems the main deal with guns is to supply the criminals with stolen stuff that all the reported serial numbers can't seem to find!

TMAC,
Own yes, carry not for a long time (1969-2004 ). Never had a carry permit. Most of my small arsenal is collectible for investment without ammunition. I have an article pending on why I don't carry anymore?

If you are so wanting to kill people---just join our Military and get PTSD from all the blood and destruction you get to witness. . .

BT: Lots of "Cannot shoot the guy" rules that I will add to the series. I suggest do not talk without an attorney.

I attended a Gun Safety Lecture by a Detective at church last night. After you shoot someone, you better have the right answers to the Detectives questions.

Ted, A good article but I would suggest a better holster. If needed, speed will be a prime factor.

I fail to see the wisdom of toting irons in Beaufort County. Until things change a bunch more, we are relatively safe here.

Now Nash County and drug-infested Rocky Mount is another matter . . .
