Margaret Hester of Bayview, N.C., began the next phase of her life Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011. She was born May 27, 1928, in Darlington, S.C., the fourth of five children and only daughter of Jesse and Marion Colston. She grew up moving from South Carolina to Virginia to North Carolina with her family as her father was a Baptist minister. Her upbringing greatly influenced her life, as she remained very active in the church and made sure her three children had a religious influence and solid foundation in their life as well. Mrs. Hester entered Campbell College in 1945, graduating in 1947 with an English degree. She continued correcting her children’s grammar until Sept. 12, 2011. Margaret was known for her perpetual smile and the way she always put others first. She was optimistic with a quick wit and always ready for dessert and a game of bridge. A loving person who cherished life and loved to laugh and she was loved, appreciated and respected by many. She will be fondly missed but her memories will be treasured eternally.

Mrs. Hester was predeceased by her parents, her twin brothers Tommy and Francis Colston, and brother Fred Colston, her son William Austin Hester and her granddaughter Lauren Allyn Braddy.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Allen Hester; their son Chuck Hester and his wife Allison of Charlotte; their daughter Beverly Braddy Taylor and her husband Robert of Raleigh; her brother the Rev. Otis Colston; her grandchildren Kyle Braddy of Charlotte, N.C., Mackenzie Hester, a student at East Carolina University; her great-grandchildren Colston David Braddy and Lauren Laine Braddy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family holds dear the positive influences, the smiles and lasting imprint she left on their lives. The family would like to especially thank Amy Taffer for her care, love and service to their mother for the past year.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, N.C., where Mrs. Hester was a member c/o P.O. Box 257, Bath NC 27808. Funeral services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, N.C. Visitation will be held at the home of Charles and Margaret Hester following the service celebrating her life.

Condolences can be sent to the family at www.PamlicoFuneralServices.com.

Pamlico Funeral and Cremation Service of Washington is serving the Hester family.
