Jones Moves To Cut Funds For Sanctuary Cities | Eastern NC Now

    Washington, DC     Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) has joined his colleagues in urging the House Appropriations Committee to prohibit funding for sanctuary cities in the Homeland Security Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2017. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, there are over 276 sanctuary cities across the country where federal immigration laws are disregarded by local authorities. These cities, like San Francisco, are safe havens for violent illegal aliens like Francisco Sanchez, who murdered Kate Steinle last year.

    "One of the primary purposes of government is to protect American citizens. Sanctuary cities provide protection to violent illegal aliens at the expense of law-abiding American citizens. It's outrageous, and it's got to stop," said Congressman Jones. "I have consistently voted to stop illegal immigration into this country and to stem the flow of benefits to those who have broken our immigration laws. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure American citizens are kept safe from violent illegal aliens."

    Congressman Jones has also joined his colleagues in asking the appropriations committee to block funds for all of President Obama's executive actions on immigration since 2011. Last year, Congressman Jones voted to end sanctuary cities and impose mandatory minimums on criminal illegal aliens. He also re-introduced legislation requiring states to track and report crimes committed by illegal aliens to the FBI as a condition for receiving any funds from the Department of Homeland Security.
