Press Release:

Raleigh, NC     Today, in an interview with POLITICO, former ACLU lobbyist Deborah Ross sought to promote her college affordability tour. During the interview, Ross said, "We started a student loan and college affordability tour, hearing from students and professors and their parents about the problems of paying for college and what Congress can do." What she failed to mention in the interview were any specific policy proposals that will improve college affordability for North Carolinians. This comes after the Winston-Salem Journal attended one of her college affordability events and reported that she "stopped short of providing specific proposals."

Senator Burr has made college affordability a priority in the Senate and just last week it was reported that federal student loan interest rates would drop from 4.29% to 3.76%, saving North Carolina students $1.1 billion, due in part to the Bipartisan Loan Certainty Act introduced by Senator Burr and several colleagues from both sides of the aisle. Senator Burr has also introduced the bipartisan Boost Saving for College Act that aims to improve 529 savings accounts and provide tax credits to low and middle income families.

Statement from the Burr Campaign: "Deborah Ross' inability to offer specifics on a host of issues, from how to defeat ISIS to how to make college more affordable for North Carolina students, is a troubling development for her campaign. Unlike Ross--who clearly doesn't have any concrete proposals for improving college affordability-- Senator Burr has led on this issue and will continue to work on providing more opportunities for students seeking an affordable higher education."
