Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     This past Wednesday, Attorney General Roy Cooper was the headliner at a fundraiser organized by the Sierra Club PAC, which has supported anti-jobs policies in North Carolina.

"Roy Cooper's anti-growth, job-killing policies are bad for North Carolina's economy," said NCGOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse. "Instead of finding ways to safely create jobs and grow our economy to help North Carolina families, Roy Cooper continues to side with Washington, D.C. and liberal interest groups whose policies would raise power bills and hold back our state's growth."

Together, Roy Cooper and the Sierra Club:

  • Supported the President's overreaching EPA power rules which will hike utility bills for North Carolina families by more than $400 on average. As Attorney General, Roy Cooper sided with his far-left allies and refused to join more than a dozen other states to sue the Obama administration to halt the plan. (Fact sheet: "Environmental justice in the Clean Power Plan," Sierra Club, 8/20/2015; Report: Energy market impacts of recent federal regulations on the electric power sector," Energy Ventures Analysis, 11/2014; Mark Barrett, "Roy Cooper: NC should develop air plan instead of suing," Asheville Citizen-Times, 8/12/2015)
  • Sued the state and delayed crucial repairs and the replacement of the Outer Banks' Bonner Bridge. (102 N.C. App. 411; 402 S.E.2d 447; 1991 N.C. App. LEXIS 432)
  • Opposed regulatory reform in North Carolina, which has provided certainty to businesses looking to expand and create jobs in the state. (Report: "North Carolina Report on 2014 legislative session," Sierra Club, 2014; Report: "North Carolina Report on 2015 legislative session," Sierra Club, 2014)
  • Opposed the "Energy Modernization Act of 2014" to open up North Carolina to safe onshore natural gas exploration. (Report: "North Carolina Report on 2014 legislative session," Sierra Club, 2014)
  • Supported the EPA's overreaching new 'Waters of the United States' rules, which would cede more control of North Carolina waterways to Washington, D.C. and open farmers and landowners to excessive regulations and fines. (Final Rule: "Clean Water Rule: Definition of 'Waters of the United States," U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 5/27/2015)
  • Opposed safe offshore energy exploration, which would create jobs and bring revenue to NC for schools and road construction, and supported the President's moratorium on offshore exploration off the North Carolina. (Press release: "NC Sierra Club applauds the Obama Administration's revised offshore plan," Sierra Club, 3/15/2016)
  • Opposed the construction of the Keystone Pipeline, a safer, cheaper way to transport natural gas and grow jobs, and boasting of their involvement. (Press release: "How the Sierra Club and its allies beat the Keystone pipeline," Sierra Club, 11/6/2015)
