Press Release:

As we move closer to Fourth of July weekend and celebrate our nation's independence, the Burr campaign will continue to highlight work Senator Burr has done on behalf of those who fight, or have fought, for our freedom in the armed forces.

Here in North Carolina, USMC Base Camp Lejeune dealt with water contamination issues from 1953-1987 and many veterans and their family members stationed there during that time have dealt with health problems as a result of the toxins. Senator Burr has been a leader in the effort to ensure that those who've been affected receive proper health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs. A few examples of his work are below:

Caring For Camp Lejeune Family Act: In 2012, Senator Burr helped author legislation that required the VA to provide health care to anyone who was stationed at Camp Lejeune or worked there during that period of time and suffered from certain diseases that are linked to water contamination.

The Janey Ensminger Act Of 2016: More recently, Senator Burr helped introduce legislation that increased pressure on the VA to provide health care to people who've contracted any disease as a result of the water contamination at Camp Lejeune. The bill is named after Janey Ensminger, the daughter of Marine Corps Master Sergeant Jerry Ensminger, who died of leukemia after being exposed to the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune for the entirety of life.
